Nothing went Coahoma County High School’s way in the primary round of the Class 2A MHSAA girls’ basketball playoffs, but coach Derrick Moore felt the team completed every part it set out to realize in 2022-23. The Lady Red Panthers (16-13, 7-3) were eliminated with a 74-39 home loss against Walnut High School Monday night. The Lady Cardinals took a 25-6 lead at the top of the primary quarter on six, 3-pointers, and Coahoma County could get back into the sport. Senior Armoni Redmon connected on two, 3-pointers within the fourth quarter to complete with 8 points, however the Lady Red Panthers couldn’t close the gap. Coahoma County opened the season 2-8, but got here back to win the Region 3-2A District Tournament at Riverside High School and earn a house playoff game, and Moore was completely satisfied about those achievements.

“We completed what we got down to do,” he said. “In fact, you usually wish to go so far as you may, but truth be told, we didn’t have that kind of team. We were lacking in too many areas, but we set out to perform what we wanted. I tell them in case you put within the work, you may accomplish more. But this was just about the work we put into accomplishing. We got that done, so we are able to’t really hold our heads down.” “I’m happy with them,” Moore continued. “It’s nothing to be down about. We completed what we got down to do.”

Redmon, Zanedria Martin, who led Coahoma County with 11 points, and Calvayuna Johnson were the team’s three seniors. Twelve Coahoma County girls will likely be returning next season. While the team will bring back experience next season, Moore will make a stronger effort to advance further within the playoffs. “Whatever the age, they’ve got to wish to work,” he said. “The largest thing is the ladies just don’t wish to play ball until it’s basketball season, and you may’t win games like that. “The youngsters are going to should get in (the gym). The parents can have to stop allowing kids to make excuses not to come back in the event that they wish to be good. In the event that they don’t, we just proceed to do the identical thing, get the identical results.” Moore said there’s talent on the Lady Red Panthers’ roster. “We’ve got kids that may play some ball,” he said. “Again, we’re not within the gym enough to finetune what we’d like to finetune.” Tom Williams of The Panther News contributed to this report.
