The book “How to Catch an Elf” was read to children during the Christmas at Carnegie event on Thursday night.

Christmas at Carnegie was part of the month-long “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” festival in December. Activities were held at the Carnegie Public Library for two hours on Thursday.

“This particular event is to encourage children to get involved in reading again—the magic of reading,” said Christopher Coleman, a board member of the “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” festival.

In addition to Christmas stories being told, children were able to play Christmas bowling, get a Christmas tattoo, and win raffle prizes, including gift cards, toys, and a 65-inch TV.

“The staff of the library has set up a spectacular display,” Coleman said. “We want to encourage you to come out to the Carnegie Public Library.”

Activities in the near future include the community canoe roundtrip from Quapaw Canoe Co. to Island 62 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 9, the Coahoma Community College Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11, and “A Taste of Christmas” at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium at 5 p.m. on Dec. 14.
