Jackson, MS – The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (the Institute) was recently commended by the CDC Foundation for its exceptional efforts in safeguarding communities against Mpox and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
Dedicated to promoting health equity and addressing disparities in healthcare among minority populations, the Institute has demonstrated exemplary commitment and innovation in its initiatives to combat infectious diseases. Last fall, the Institute hosted outreach events and four vaccine events, reaching 176 individuals. Additionally, its staff provided support to nearly 100 people with vaccine referral/navigation and administered 16 Mpox vaccines.
The commendation from the CDC Foundation underscores the Institute’s pivotal role in enhancing public health and protecting vulnerable communities from the threat of vaccine-preventable illnesses. Tiffany Givens, Program Manager at the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health, expressed gratitude, stating, “We are deeply honored to receive this commendation from the CDC Foundation. This recognition serves as a testament to our unwavering dedication to advancing minority health and promoting equity in healthcare. We remain steadfast in our commitment to working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to eliminate health disparities and ensure that all individuals have access to life-saving vaccines.”
From September to December 2023, the Institute reached LBTQUIA+ individuals in Copiah, Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Simpson, Bolivar, Coahoma, Holmes, Leflore, Sunflower, Quitman, and Washington counties.
