Red, White & Brew Bar and Grill owner, Beth Carpenter, and her husband Curtis came up with the name for the newest restaurant in Coahoma County out of love for the American Flag. By coincidence, the same bar and grill that was named to resemble the flag had its grand opening on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11.

Red, White & Brew Bar and Grill, located at 18356 Highway 61 North in Lyon, initially opened on Oct. 2. Looking for a day to have an official grand opening, Nov. 11 turned out to be convenient. “We didn’t actually plan it that way,” Beth Carpenter said. “It just was a good Saturday to do it when both Ole Miss and Mississippi State were away.” Musicians Tori Tollison and Justin David McClain were scheduled to play for the grand opening.

Beth Carpenter told the story about how she and Curtis came up with the name Red, White & Brew Bar and Grill. “My husband loves the flag – red, white, and blue,” Beth Carpenter said. “We were sitting there trying to rhyme words and things and just came up with it.” As it turned out, several businesses had the name “Red, White & Brew.” “We actually didn’t realize there were like 75,000 of them,” Beth Carpenter said jokingly. “We were not original.”

Red, White & Brew Bar and Grill has TV sets, pool tables, and a place to play cornhole. It opens at 11 a.m. daily, and the kitchen closes at 8:30 p.m. Beth Carpenter encouraged people to try Red, White & Brew Bar and Grill, but she has been happy with the support the business has received the past month. “It’s been really good,” she said.

Beth Carpenter said barbecue nachos have been the most popular food on the menu, and Michelob Ultra and Miller Lite have been the most popular beers. “It’s a good, clean place to come and hopefully enjoy the entertainment and get something good to eat at,” she said. Being on Highway 61 has enabled Red, White & Brew Bar and Grill to have a customer base outside of Coahoma County. Beth Carpenter said many customers have been from Helena-West Helena, Ark. “We’ve had people coming from the casino on the way to Clarksdale and they would stop by,” she said.

Beth Carpenter was born and raised in Coahoma County and did payroll and accounting at Cooper Tire in the past. She and Curtis owned the building since 2001 and were looking to try something new. “We just had the space and were trying to figure out something to do, and we felt there was a need for something,” Beth Carpenter said.
